The most recent version of the Unit’s guideline on compensation for patient partners was approved by its Steering Committee on October 7, 2024. It aims to standardize the remuneration of patient partners from the Unit’s funds in the interests of fairness, recognition, and alignment with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS).
Teamwork and synergy
The guideline was developed in collaboration with the Expériences community, a provincial community gathering over 200 patient partners. Interviews were conducted with researchers and coordinators from the Unit to understand the impact of the changes on their activities and to allow for adjustments.

Simplified management and improved user experience
The management of patient partner compensation by the Unité de soutien SSA Québec has been improved for greater efficiency and simplicity.
- Simplified management: task automation and a personalized portal for patients and those who mandate them.
- Signed mandate for each involvement: each new involvement requires an official mandate, authorized by both parties.
- Tracking hours and requesting compensation: patient partners track their hours and submit their requests via the Smartsheet solution.
